I’m honestly baffled by the German pronunciation in katakana considering how the Japanese are so obsessed with German… Stuffs.

Those two commanders getting ahead of themselves and almost getting each of their respective fleets completely annihilated, they're lucky Yang was quick to come as reinforcement to make Mittermeyer and Reunthal retreat.

It was funny how Yang was so speechless when Julian appeared after Merkatz introduced him as the person that contributed the most, he's not able to keep his cool when it comes to Julian lol.

Kempff really didn't give up till the very end, it is unfortunate to seem him go. I'm curious to see Reinhard's reaction to this loss.

Didn't Reinhard already comment (on his prevision of the battle) on how he would lose, from the moment he didn't try the crash between fortress from the beginning ? (while he had his whole fleet as support to prevent the targetting of his engines)

Started watching this from season 1 and it's one of the best anime I have watched in the military genre. After code geass this is definitely my number 2. I can't believe how underrated it is.

The destruction of Geiserburg fortress was much more brutal in the original series.

DNT was beautiful and OVA was gruesome IN OVA, there's people and damaged ships still inside the doomed Geiserburg Fortress, it's so bad that some even resulting of shooting at each other just to get into the shuttle, Muller and it's remaining ships couldn't evacuate those that left behind and was caught in the Geiserburg explosion, unlike DNT where they lost 4/5 of it's fleet strength which left only around 7400 ships, OVA lost more than 90% of the fleet, only leaving around 700 ships if i recall.

And that is why I like the OVA of this arc more, the chaos and brutality of that scene was just great to see unfold into a sheer cataclysm.

Yeah and how DNT put quite of budget to trying to portray kempff as a cool admiral is hilarious (one on the lazy still image 05:14 and another is his last hour flying the fortress 13:58) , the shows doesn't really give us much to feel or have attachment toward him, since he's a third rated character in his mid 30s that doesn't hold any value since his debut in season 1 DNT.

"i mean DNT did this cause they wanna portray that both side are people who fight in war so tbh is more humane and interesting and grey instead of just black and white" - what do you mean? both side fortress is filled with dead bodies after firing at their super weapons at each others, it war, there nothing humane, everyone is fighting like animals, if you talked about why i find it hilarious, it's because it also felt so out of context since DNT rarely made silly or goofy moment compared with OVA, everyone is so serious and suddenly they show 05:14 and 13:58 scene making so cartoonish which caught me off guard.

"you comment on how the OG when down make kemf no different from the shitty noble our MC purge no?" - Yes and no, if you watch this arc, you should already know the real purpose of this operation, not just about the fortress, Spoiler: this whole thing is a prelude against Fezzan, Reinhard and Oberstein had plan this to see how and why they're interfering, they don't care if the Geiserburg operation is successful even the warp test is good to go, they just let it played, Kempf and Muller is just unlucky that Oberstein choose them even tho Reinhard knew Kempff isn't qualifiled because he's hot-headed character and inexperienced but still trust him to give results.
Reinhard didn't pick Kempff out of loyalty or hatred of the nobles, he knew Kempff has potential but limited in commanding, and hope he'll get better on every future battle.

"it war, there nothing humane" that not the point by portraying kempf as a shitty commander it portray both side as black and white empire dictator bad guys and free alliance is the good guys
by making kempf into a a decent honorable commander it make both side grey as there are good people in both sides

This fall anime season there sure is a lot of anime that's coming back for another season.

Yes. You don't have to watch the old one though. But if you are interested, of course you can. It has more than 100 episodes.

I know the story is trying to be nuanced and shine some light on both sides yet I really can't help but see the Alliance (and Yang's Crew in particular) as the "Good guys" here and the Empire with Reinhard and his crew as the "vilains".

They're all poisoned with the virus of war, a war they have no business waging. Kemph shouldn't have died and Reinhard should give up once and for all on his Napoleonic dreams (and instore an actual democracy within the Empire hopefully). And Kircheis was an annoying hypocrite. He was against the nobles nuking their lands but then he left Reinhard with the worst dying wish immaginable, fuelling his worst dellusions.
It makes for an exciting story, especially when Yang comes in and saves the day, but it's also frustrasting to see these moronic imperials rushing to their death (some of the alliance guys toobut they're side charcters) and causing needless suffering.

It's back. Been waiting for this. Such a great anime. The entire death star vs death star battle was epic.

Gotta say, I hate when military hubris is more important to someone than returning alive to their wife and children. They portray him as a valiant soldier, and he is, but honestly he's kind of an asshole for not thinking about his family until he's already dying.

With all their technology, there was absolutely a way to send the fortress at them, accompany it with the fleet to assure the Alliance fleet doesn't shoot the engine (like they did) and then split off as it's about to ram Iserlohn.

The dude didn't HAVE to go down with the fortress, he just felt responsible for the lives of the soldiers lost since he didn't do that plan to start with. Hubris and poor strategy.

Kempf died doing what he loved the most, he was extremely stubborn and prideful. If only he had believed what Muller was saying about Yang being absent, perhaps the outcome of the battle would have been different. There’s nothing here to celebrate, this war just keeps killing more and more people. 

However, Reunthal and Mittermeyer have come to the rescue. Those two went against Yang’s decision and followed Muller’s ship, which ended horribly for them.

Yang truly cares for Julian, and I love how he always shows it.

Every time the fleet is shooting and the commander goes "annihilate them", do that means "shoot more" (which they aren't doing yet...) or just "all energy to lasers, none on shields, none on propulsion" ? (like season 2 (I think, with the minefield) with a volley of lasers "maximum energy to lasers to destroy most ships")

Eh, SoA has some good episodes. Much of S2-3 are shit but honestly Underworld arc was pretty decent.

I'd say this the guy is more just trying to stir the shitpot by posting the same comment multiple time though.

I liked gun gale arc, I thought it was pretty good well it least the beginning towards the middle, also the one when he saves asana from marrying the creepy dude had it's moments too. The overall story and continuity of the series steadily progresses in sword art online regardless the route they take it, as long as they keep that up its good in my book.
